2009 Rocky Mountain Rugby Challenge,
America's Premier U-18/U-20 Rugby Tournament
June 13-14, 2009 Aurora Sports Park
Welcome to the 2009 Rocky Mountain Challenge
For eight years the Rocky Mountain Rugby
Challenge has not only continued to generate increased interest in U-19 rugby,
the tournament provides opportunities for competition amongst the best
young rugby players in America. The mission of the tournament is to serve as a mechanism for identifying
talented U-18 and U-20 rugby players who are then invited to player development
camps with the goal of being selected for the USA National U-18/U-20 pool. This is the highest visibility
tournament of this type in the
USA and is viewed as a key selection vehicle by the national coaches.
Currently there are 18 teams headed to Colorado for the event
and more are promising to make the trip.
The Denver area is fast becoming a rugby paradise. Aurora is the home of the
Challenge for 9 years. Nearby Glendale is home to Infinity Stadium, the
first rugby specific stadium constructed by a municipality in the United States.
Denver will be host to the
Churchill Cup this June and for the next three years.
The first Rugby Super League match was played in Rapids Stadium this spring
following a fine match between Highland High School (Forever Strong) and
perennial state High School Rugby Finalist, East High School.
In addition to pioneering the Rocky Mountain
Challenge for the last eight years, Colorado Youth Rugby has hosted two National
High School Championships and boasts 22 high school men's rugby clubs and 8 high
school women's clubs.
